Just My Luck....

So, I leave the house this morning to go to bible study. I spend my time there, come home, and as I'm driving down the street, I'm looking at my mailbox thinking, "Hmmmm, I never realized how crooked that is." Now we don't just have a box on a pole. We have the arched brick kind with the planter attached to the side, and the box is actually cemented in. As I get closer I realize, it has been hit.

I just happend to notice this morning, that across the street there was a big, blue, raggedy van parked outside the neighbors house. They have a son that comes around every once in a while for who knows what, and is always in a different "hooptie". Well, upon closer inspection of my mangled mailbox, there was glass on the street, curb, and even under the leaves of my plants....along with a few blue streaks of paint along the box cover. So, I immediately get my trusty camera and take a few shots. Then, I get a baggie and scoop up most of the broken glass, then scratch some of the paint into my "evidence bag". (It pays to watch Judge Mathis). I then proceed to contact our local police department to file a report. The office was amazed that the structure hadn't crumbled, because it had been hit with such force. The entire structure has been moved at least 4 inches, and is now teetering precariously on the curb. Then, he takes down the info, questions me a bit and gives me my "hit and run" slip for the report. He will be back in the morning to talk to the people, since no one was home. However, if I see the van, I am to call the station and not approach the people. Well, duh!  You know, if they had hit it and just cracked a brick, I wouldn't have said anything. Or if they had left a note and tried to be responsible....but to do that kind of damage and say nothing???? Crazy, I tell you. So, who knows what will happen after this. Dh is ready to move....we've got the cat lady, the nosepicker/flasher, the hit and runners.....what a lovely neighborhood! And let me tell you, the houses here aren't cheap....I would expect this if I lived in some bad part of town....but not in a nice, quiet suburb! Sheesh!

So, that was my day. On the upside, the air conditioner guy came and said our unit was old, but running fine. We can probably get another 2 years out of it, since it is the original one and the house is 15 years old. And I did make a good dinner....baked chicken over salad....yummy! And in honor of mrscheesestix birthday, I had a piece of cheesecake....how appropriate, huh?

Oh that so sucks about the mail box. The way your animation is bending over like "helppppppppppp meeeeeeeeeeee I'm bent, I'm injured, I wish I could point out the loserrrrrrrr that killed me!" I got nuts for neighbors too...I keep saying I'll get to that entry and I Never do. Love the way you collected the evidence and that was cute about the cheese cake.

Great work, inspector Sherry. I hate to say this, but absolutely nothing surprises me about people anymore--especially the bad things...Glad to hear y'all had a nice dinner. That certainly makes everything much better!!!

Some people are schmucks, sorry on the mailbox! I'd have to have some fun with the likes of neighbors you have! In regards to your comment on my entry, we live in Orlando now. We lived in the Fruit Cove/Julington Creek area before we moved to NC. We're glad to be back in the sunshine state.

Bummer about the mailbox. Someone recently hit mine too but at least mine is just a box on a pole!

Let me tell you from firthand experience, it doesn't matter how "nice" your houses are in the neighborhood or how expensive, there will always be scum that live in any neighborhood. I also live in a nice rich suburb house and you wouldn't believe my neighbors!! We want to leave before some of their children turn into teenagers, that's how bad it is. Good idea on the taking of evidence and your observant nature!! Pays off!
Love and hugs, Lisa

I love the mailbox graphic. It fits the story so well, crooked and all. Glad the air conditioner is ok and that dinner was good. Hope the cheesecake was especially good. What did the cop look like?
