Untitled.....

On Monday, wee one gave her first ever oral book report. She said that she was so nervous she felt like puking (her words), but that she did a good job. Thankfully we had finished the actual report last week, so all we had to do this weekend were the notecards and project. Of course, I forgot all about it until Saturday afternoon, then there was the Sunday morning spent in the ER....but we got it all done. She told me that her teacher was mighty impressed with the moblie she had made.

She read an American Girl book about Kirsten, who lived in a log cabin and went to a one room school house. So, I let her use my slate chalk board that was hanging on the wall for messages as the base of the mobile, and from that, she hung pictures that she drew about the story. She wrote the title with chalk on the slate....it turned out really cute. I'll take a pic when she brings it home. She also took in a log cabin she made when she was 5. My mom was watching Martha Stewart make an entire village out of cardboard covered in pieces of pine cone and decided to try it with the kids. So, they sat for hours, gluing individual pieces of the cone to cardboard house bases....and they turned out great! The teacher was impressed that she made that as well....wee one was absolutely delighted. I hope she gets an A....she takes these things so seriously! A little boy did his report on the same book. I asked her how he did and she says, "I'm sorry mom, but it stunk!" I told her that I'm sure he did his best, and it wasn't nice to say something like that about someone else. She told me, "Well, he only told part of the story, and even though he had a picture of the Indian girl, he never even mentioned her name!"  Oh jeez! Talk about a stickler for details! LOL.

Today I have to get dressed and out of here early, as dh wants me to go with him to the college to get his books. Now, why, I ask you, do I have to go with him? I have 100 things to do today, not to mention the fact that it is "early dismissal Wednesday", AND Betsy has to make up a test. So....I'll have to pick her up, then race back here to be at the bus stop in time to pick up wee one and the little girl I'm watching.

I'm so restless lately. I don't know what to cook for dinner anymore. I don't really feel like cooking, yet, I'm not in the mood for take out. Last night I made a lovely pot roast, mashed potatoes, steamed carrots and potato rolls. What did wee one say? "I suppose we are having a roast again." Well excuse me!....lol. It made me laugh in a way....dh and Betsy raved about it and hogged out. It was pretty good....

Anyway....I guess I should get going so that I can be on time for my outing with dh. Wouldn't want to miss buying books....it will surely be the highlight of my day....

I made 2 pot roasts last night. Lots of hoggers in this house. But we have left overs. How could you make that so much. It's so time consuming. I think wee one is just like her mommy. After what you went through at ER, school would be last thing on my mind. I'm shocked you got it all done. Maybe hub wants you to come to squeeze in some romantic time alone? Ya never know. Have a great day and just enjoy getting out. (((U)))

Oh yeah at our library Rachael also got the books....... Dear America series. They are about true happenings in America but with fictional boys and girls added in the places so the kids become part of the story but the facts are true. It was a great way of learning about history and they are fun easy fast reads. Maybe your library has them or can interlibrary loan them for you. They are very popular among our homeschool group. The kids boys and girls alike love them. Lori

Good Job on the book report Wee One!!  The pot roast sounds delish.  I have been making crockpot meals more often lately.  I picked up a good crockpot cookbook/magazine at the grocery store a couple of weeks ago and there are some good recipes in it.  It's the Cooking Light Slow Cooker one.

I loved book reports.  I was an avid childhood reader... I especially loved all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, and my all time favorite book is The Secret Garden.  I always wanted a little girl to share them with!

AW...big day. It's really hard to know what to say when your kids come out with the "truth" which also happens to be politically incorrect or tactless! My little-one says "so & so asked me to "go out" with him, but he's too thick for me". I always remonstrate ...."thats very unkind..don't judge...etc, but she says "well it's TRUE!" By the time I've finished my "we all have different talents .." speech, she's usually gone!

I am glad wee ones book report went well. I love it when kids are enthusiastic about things.
I never know what to cook as well these days. I go brain dead and seem to cook the same things all the time. Hope you think of something more exciting than I am cooking. We had steak and kidney pie, with new potatoes and vegs!.......Jules xx

Sorry I had to chuckle when wee one said she felt like puking.  It reminded me of my middle son, Robert.  He had a habit of puking (nerves) before football games, plays where he had a solo singing part, and once his history teacher was impressed with his knowledge of military history she had him teach a class.  What did he do before going in to teach?  Yup, PUKED!  Oh yes, he did it in basic ONE time, then he was fine.  Poor puking kid of mine.

I remember when Bethany had to do her first oral report.  I actually came without her knowing to the school and stood out in the hallway to listen to her give her book report on Anne Frank.  She had to dress like her and everything!  The teacher saw me, but just winked.  I am such a sap aren't I?!?!  I am happy that wee one did a great job.  With a momma like you, I am not surprised though!!  I am sure she will excel in everything to do with literature anyway and soon she will come into her own and become just like her Momma!!
Hugs and love, Lisa
P.S.:  We have GOT to stop having the same dinners every night!  I had pot roast with potatoes and baby carrots last night too!!  Only diff was we had an Italian Bread with it!!  Too weird!

What a great memory of your daughter's first oral book report!  I am having a lot to look forward to with book reports soon to come for my 4th grader.  I loved book reports.  I know, that is probably odd.  Love those graphics!!
