No, my daughter is not on drugs....we spent 5 hours in the emergency room early Sunday morning, waiting for results from her CT scan to find out if she had appendicitis. Turns out, although she presented with the classic signs....she has kidney stones. I didn't even know kids got them! Apparently so, as the doctor said she had a 5 year old with them. I felt so sorry for Betsy....she was in a LOT of pain. After the iv, the pain passed, as did the stone I think. However, we are getting ready right now to take her back for another CT. The one they gave her for her appendix had dye in it, and they don't use that kind for the kidneys....so we had the option to go home and wait until today, or admit her and wait for the dye to leave her system. We chose to leave and come back this morning.
I'm going to take wee one to my aunt's, and she will take her to school for me. DH and I will get Bets to the hospital for her test. They said they would admit her if the stone was larger than 2mm, but I don't think that will happen today. While reading up on the subject, I found out that the #1 cause of kidney stones is not drinking enough water....and I know dd is guilty of that! I told her she must give up the Dew, and start chugging the H2O. She isn't thrilled with that, but all I have to do is remind her of the pain....suddenly she is drinking water! LOL....
Anyhoo, that is the story and I need to get my rear in gear. I'll report back on the findings. Have a lovely Monday everyone!

I have had kidney stones in the past and I used to say that I would rather give birth without any pain med rather than having kidney stones, that's how PAINFUL they are!! I know they can break them up though with this ultrasonic way of doing it, so you can keep that in mind if the stone doesn't pass "naturally" (which hurts a heck of a lot too). Tell Bets to drink, drink, drink LOTS of water in the future, and esp now. It will help that stone from becoming lodged in the urethra area. Gross I know, but the water will keep it floating! Good luck today!!!
Hugs and love, Lisa
Oh Nooo!! I have had kidney stones twice. I had natural childbirth with my son and I think kidneys stones were more painful. I live in fear of getting them again. I also am a huge soda drinker. Good Luck today I hope everything turns out o.k.:)

This makes me think I better drink more water and less coffee! I've been living on a lotta coffee for the past two years... not so good I think. Hope all turns out ok. Love that graphic.

Yep water is a good thing :)
Oh hope she feels better soon in my prayers
I am so sorry to hear about Betsy kidney stone, they are so painful. I used to work on the urology ward that dealt with kidney stones so have seen a lot. Tell her to drink at least 2 litres of water per day and 4 litres whilst she has the stone, to flush it out. I hope she feels better soon xxxxxxxxxxx........Jules xx
