I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in Florida we are inundated with mosquitoes. They have taken up residence in hubby's garage, which means that trying to get from the car to the kitchen is equivalent to being dive bombed by Pappy Boyington's black sheep squadron. You wouldn't believe the battle wounds my family has.
So, after my room mother meeting this morning, I went to the store and purchased some mosquito spray with deet. There were only about 5 cans left on the shelf, so I assume I am not the only one with this problem. I came home and as usual, the door to the kitchen was covered with the flying menaces....so I got out my trusty can and started spraying, complete with bomb dropping sound effects. I was having a grand time, aiming and shooting my stream of liquid death when I suddenly thought, you know, maybe I shouldn't be breathing all this in....I managed to put the lid on the can and get into the house just before things got too hazy. I was rather dizzy for a moment, but I had a car full of groceries and I knew I had to go back out. So, like the brave soldier I am (or idiot, take your pick), I took a deep breath and ran outside, through the cloud of repellant to get my things. The first trip was ok, the second was harder. I really was getting light headed, so I decided to grab all six bags at once. Amazingly I made it through, although as I'm sitting here I still feel a bit giddy....
Last night wee one and I went searching for a poodle skirt costume. She was invited to a sock hop tonight, and she insisted on having the proper atire. We went to several stores and actually found the costume....however it was a size 4-6x, which was not going to work. While at the store today I found the same thing, in the same size. So....I went over to the accessories department and bought a pink nylon scarf for her hair, and we will just do the rolled up jeans, ponytail, bobby sock look. I wanted to go to Payless and get her some saddle shoes....but I decided against it. Although knowing wee one, she would have been thrilled with them, and would have worn them to school every day. I rememberhaving a pair in elementary school and hating them. And I always thought the soles looked like big erasers....
Right now I have to look up directions to wee ones birthday party tomorrow. I have no idea where this place is....somewhere over the "big bridge". I think I'll go as a taxi driver for Halloween....I know I'll get plenty of use out of that costume!

Do you have West Nile Virus around you? That has been a big problem here lately - although I really don't see too many mosquitoes.
Darn, I wish you lived closer, I have 2 poodle skirts I made my daughters a couple of years ago. Hope she has fun at the sock (don't need shoes) hop.
Ah take a pic of her when she's all ready to go. I wanna see. Do you guys have to worry about west nile virus there? My god a myschito in New York is a potential death threat.
Here I was, picturing you in a gun fight with your trusty can of spray, facing a mess of blood sucker mosquitos. It's high noon and as the clock strikes noon you draw and fire your deadly spray. All is going well for you until the mist starts to form around you. Good thing you were clear headed enough to make it inside. Will there be a big funeral or just a broom party for the dead? hehehe Hugs Lanny
When living in NJ we had a terrible mosquito problem there and they had to actually spray the areas every night and we would have to close our windows because of the terrible fumes...you couldnt walk from the house to your car without getting attacked...it was that bad...now here in Vegas we do not have them and I am so happy for that

You know I've completely forgotten about those nasty critters ... mosquitos. I was visualizing you in military garb, and a bottle of liquid killer spray in each hand ...
Anyway,
I'm glad you got out of the fumes and into the safety of the home. And darn it, I keep wanting to smack that mosquito on the screen!

yes, it's mosquito land here in Texas! Which it's a little surprising that we have so many being in dry west Texas but of course we've had a little bit more rain this season than usual so they are out waiting for us! :-)
Hope wee one had a good time at the party!

Skeeters aren't so bad this year. Now I know why, they are all down there with you. It's all the rain and crap.I made myself a poodle skirt 2 years ago for Halloween.I love the 50's.Hugs to you.KIM
Thank God our mosquitos have migrated your way for the winter!! Hee-hee! Seriously though, we don't have any and this summer was a relatively nice and mosquito free one, but let me tell you about the yellow jackets!!! They are nuts right now! I think the cold to hot, cold to hot weather has made them go nutty or something!! They are divebombing us and will actually come into the van when you are at a light! My kids freak out and it's not a pretty sight! :)
Hugs and love, Lisa
P.S.: The 50's costume sounds really cute and cheap!! :)
Mosquitos are here as well! We need a good hard freeze to get rid of those little suckers but this is Georgia so thats not going to happen anytime soon.
That costume sounds sooo cute and she will have a blast :)
Hope you fared the deet poisoning incident ok, that is nasty stuff.
Death to mosquitos!

the big question is, did it kill the mossies seeing as it nearly killed you?? I hate mossies, they eat me alive and I attract them so easily. Hope wee one has a lovely party. I did think you already had a taxi drivers costume and it was well worn ;)........Jules xxx
