Odds -n- Sods....

I can't believe Thanksgiving is only a week away. I got my grocery store flyer and if I spend $75 on groceries, I get a turkey for free....any size. I forgot about this deal....I got one last year for my "second Thanksgiving dinner". My sister and her husband were here for the holidays last year, and my mother hosted the festivities....however, she had ham instead of turkey. While the dinner was wonderful, I couldn't let the holiday go by without a turkey, so the day after Thanksgiving, I cooked an entire dinner for my family....free turkey and all. This year, I am hosting the festivities and you can bet your drumstick we are going to have one huge turkey. I've always wanted to cook a 21 pounder or bigger. I believe this will be the year! I have to start making my list of things to buy. My mom is doing two side dishes and pies, and I get the rest. I can't wait!

**Question of the day: What is one side dish that you could never do without on Thanksgiving....

I would have to say broccoli rice casserol. We have had this since I can remember, and it's always the first to go. I don't make it at any other time of the year, although sometimes we do it at Christmas. Mmmmmm, I can't wait for some of that!

I went to feed the dog today, and there is just enough food to scrape out a bowl tomorrow morning. I hate when that happens. Am I the only one around here who can buy a bag of dogfood? Sheesh! We keep a plastic tub in the pantry, and empty the bags into that, so his food stays fresh. You would think someone would have noticed it was getting low. But no....and of course I forgot all about it when I went to the store yesterday. *Sigh.

I had a bunch of stuff I wanted to write about today....but my mind is blank. I really need to keep a notebook with me at all times. Or one of those little tape machines. Then I could walk around all day recording, saying, "Note to self...." I've always wanted to do that.

Oh! I do remember one thing I was going to mention. Last night I was watching VH-1 at 10, and there was a show called "Motormouth". Has anyone seen this? OMG....I was laughing so hard that my pillow was wet from crying. John was laying behind me and kept telling me to quit because I was shaking the bed. The premis is that someone sets up a friend by putting a video camera in their car, and it records them singing with the radio. OMG....some of these people were hysterical! Seeing them try to be cool, or forgetting the words, or really off key. The funniest things though, were the 19 year olds that would sing all the words to Tom Jones or Frank Sinatra or the Carpenters. I'm telling you, it was hysterical. And then when the accomplices get into the car and try to get them to really sing....I was hysterical. I would highly recommend this show.

Okay, that's it. My mind is officially blank now. I'm going to go clean. Have a good one....

First off:  "Question of the day: What is one side dish that you could never do without on Thanksgiving", mine would HAVE to be mashed potatoes and gravy.  Boring, I know, but turkey isn't the same without them spuds!  :)  I will have to try and catch that "Motormouth" show because I have heard people in J-land talking about it.  I am not up late enough to watch it though I bet.  Glad you are having your turkey this year.  I am cooking at my MIL's house for them since she was going to go out to dinner and guilted me into doing it.  Sigh.
Hugs and love, Lisa

Just a note.  You should never keep dog food in a plastic container.  You should never use plastic bowls for food or water either.  Plastic is a petrolium product.  This will cause anemia in your pets.  I used to have a kennel of show dogs.  I always used stainless steel containers and bowls.  They were washed and disinfected daily.

I've been to Thanksgiving at an American friends in the past. It was yummy. Especially the cornbread, which I've never seen before? What is cornbread?
We never really eat turkey. I got one for Christmas dinner last year. I was at work from 3pm Xmas eve to 4pm Xmas day & it was lovely to get home & walk into that smell!!! I'm not working this Christmas....a perk of management!

Funny, we have a broccoli casserole that is always GONE by the end of the meal.  I always HAVE to have that for Thanksgiving, sometimes for Christmas too.  Sonny HATES cooked broccoli and won't even try it.  The rest of his family seemed to really like it though.  :-)

omg two cassarole dishes in a row I have never had. We have turkey, gravy, mashed potatos,  cauliflower, salad, turnups, corn, sometimes we do the italian dish mixed in either baked ziti, lasagna or egg plant parm. But I couldn't live without the artichokes, unstuffed simmered for 2 ours in water, a little olive oil tons and tons of garlic and pecorino romano, parmesean, and that other good italian cheese not motzerella omg my mind is blank. I couldn't live without the artichokes..omg or the custard pie.
