Well, it's official....I am the mother of a 17 year old. I can't believe it! It seems as though just yesterday she was a baby. I went through my old photo albums and scanned a few pics in here....she was such a cute little girl....and now she is turning into a beautiful woman. I am so proud of her....
She is working this evening even though her boss said that she could have it off for her birthday. She is now officially a supervisor and did her first closing this weekend....all by herself. She has taken so well to this job and really does like it. This weekend she and a few of her close friends are going out to a movie together. Ahhhh, to be young again!
On a different note....Wednesday will be one year that she has held her learners permit....which means she is now eligible to get her liscense! Oh man....I am nervous! She is a good driver....but I'm still worried! LOL. I told her she is going to start out slowly, like driving to work when she has a day shift. She will also have to follow the six month rule....no passengers for six months. I want her to realize that driving is serious business. Especially here where people drive like freaking MANIACS!
I have been weepy all day. If my life were a movie, today would have been full of flashbacks. I kept remembering when Betsy was a baby, how she loved playing with matchbox cars....moving a line of around 50 of them an inch at a time down the stairs for hours, talking on the phone with her little pre school friend for two hours at a time. When she got her first pair of glasses, sang in her first choir concert, had her first boyfriend. Marching in the 4th of July parade in Schererville then getting sick and spending two days in the hospital with a kidney infection. Basketball and middle school, hanging out with her best friend Melinda....moving to Florida and making new friends; she adapted so well.
I am just amazed that 17 years can go by in a blink of an eye. I would not, however, change a second of any of it. I love you my sweet Lasina Skids/Betsy....you are my JOY!

You left me with tears in my eyes. What a beautiful entry. My oldest just turned 15 and I was the same way, crying and on a trip down memory lane. I love the six month rule. I am going to use that when the time comes. I live in Miami and there are crazy drivers here as well.
Take Care,
Louise
My "baby" will be 17 on August 26th and gets her license on the 29th, provided she passes the test! I know EXACTLY how you feel. This is a milestone year. Driving, senior year, prom, college.....how did they get so OLD? My DD16 is away for 2 weeks at a Pre College program at one of the schools she's interested in for Music Ed. She's staying in a dorm, has a great roommate, etc. She's getting a real taste of college life. BUT....how can that be? Aren't they still BABIES???? (LOL!!)
You daughter is GORGEOUS and she sounds like a wonderful young woman. You must certainly be a great mom because wonderful kids aren't just born that way you know!
Congratulations to you...and to your daughter too!
Jeanne
I was looking at all your pics and hubby was here with me (as usual) and I was saying, "This is her oldest daughter when she was a baby, oh, and this one is of her youngest daughter 'Wee One'" and I went through the pictures and then I said "WAIT A MINUTE, Wee One wouldn't have a Barney doll!! Those are all BETSY!". I cannot believe how much Wee One and Betsy look alike!!! I never noticed it before seeing Betsy's pictures of her younger, but boy oh boy, they are practically twins!!! HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY SWEET BETSY!!!!!
Hugs and love, Lisa
P.S.: Have you changed AT ALL?!??!! Darnit woman, you haven't aged!!! Have I told you how much I really, really dislike you lately? LOL! ;)
I swear to you between the pictures and the words I am all choked up.
Happy Birthday Gorgeous!
She still has the same baby face from her baby pictures..I don't think she has changed a drop just taller lol and wtg at being responsible and listening to your mom who loves you more than anyone on this planet will ever love you. She's a great lady and you are lucky to have her...VERY LUCKY! How many people get to have such a young cool hot mom that thinks of them and cares about them the way your mom does. Ah I'm sorry..I preach I know but it's because I know her and I know how much you are the light of her life. Her love for you is overwhelming when she talks about you. Enjoy your 17th year be happy and smile smile and remember...MEN ARE JUST DESSERTS..LET YOUR DINNER PLATE BE ALL ABOUT BETSY.
she is so beautiful, no wonder you are so proud of her. Time flies doesn't it, one minute they are babes in arms, then they are all grown up. Hope she had a wonderful birthday...........Jules xxxx
