I just got back from the mall with the girls....we went shopping for John for father's day. What did I get, you ask? Well....here's the rundown:
From the girls:
the movie "Next Friday"
the movie "Friday after Next"
the movie "Undercover Brother"
a box of Maurice Lanell "pinwheel" cookies (his favorite)
a box of thin mint candy
From me:
a solar lighted address stone (I don't know why....it was an impulse buy)"
and my personal favorite, a 5 foot cardboard cutout of Homer Simpson to put outside his office
at work. WooHoo!
As you can see, father's day is just a fun, goofy gift day. I know he will love all of it. I still have to get my dad something. He is extremely hard to buy for, especially since his disease. Yesterday when I was watching him, I asked him what he would like. His speech is very slurred, so I had to strain to hear. I heard "expired" "mom" and "power screwdriver like John". When I put it all together, he said, "I would like one of those power screwdrives like John has, so your mom will have something to fix things with when I'm expired." I tell ya, it broke my heart to hear it....but I just laughed and told him that was a crazy thought, he will be here a long time, and if I get him a power screwdriver, HE has to use it. He laughed when I said that. We had a really nice day together. We watched a Lifetime movie together called "Holy Joe", (very cute, btw), and then he took a nap. When my mom came to pick him up, I know he was ready to go as he doesn't feel safe unless he's in his own home....although mine is a close second. My sisters will be here on Saturday from Indiana, so we will have a "family" celebration. My dad is really looking forward to it.
After the mall we ran to the Dollar Tree for gift bags, and of course, 12 other things that weren't necessary! I love going in there because I tell wee one, "You can pick out ANYTHING you want here!" I wonder how much longer it will be before she realizes how long I've been scamming her? Then we went to the grocery store and picked up a few items for dinner. I have to say, it was a great day with the girls. They actually had fun together, and enjoyed our trip. Amazing. No fighting over who got the front seat either. That makes it nice....
Oh, yes, I forgot. While at the mall we stopped at Build-A-Bear. This store is for people who have nothing better to do with $20. You pick out a stuffed animal body, choose a sound to put in it, fill it with stuffing (with the help of a sickening sweet employee), and a heart (which they make the children hold, wish on, rub on, twirl with, etc. before putting it in the animal). You then move from that station to the "bathing" station, where you are given a brush and forced air to "fluff" them up, and then it's on to the clothes. Holy smokes....I have never seen such a selection of clothes for dolls! Leather Harley jackets, boots, cowboy hats, leis and grass skirts....all on hangers with plastic....even underwear! You could easily walk out of there spending $50. When the girl told wee one the clothes were extra I told her, "Well then, I guess your frog is going to leave the store naked!" Today was the debut day for the frog stuffed animal....so we had to get it. I will say, she paid for it with her own money....right before we left for the mall, I asked her if she had her wallet to pay for the frog. She said yes, and that she had $10. I told her, "Honey, $10 is not going to be enough....it will be at least $18 before tax." You know what she said to me? "Well, that's where YOU come in...."

LOL!! I remember doing the same thing with my mom when we would go shopping!! Sending prayers for your family to enjoy Father's Day with your family and a special one for your Dad. :o) Julie
Looks like you are enjoying the summer with your kids. Shopping and spending quality time, who can ask for anything more. It's sweet of you to talk openly with your dad. I know that's the way he'd want it to be. Hugs Lanny
I can't count the times leslie "paid" for her item when she hands me her 25 cents or so...so cute, and she makes sure I give the money to the cashier, so she'll get a five and 25 cents..haha
Great presents...Love the cardboard cutout!! How amusing!!

My father is just the world to me, I can't even imagine what you're going through! I do hope that you all have a wonderful holiday weekend! Angie
I'm spotting a trend here, Sherry, and please correct me if I'm wrong. You accuse me of ordering Chinese food a lot, and I'd just like to note that you seem to do an awful lot of shopping...There have been MANY entries dolled up with graphics of ladies carrying boxes, ladies carrying bags, and this one above of stuff popping out of a bag. Do we had a problem we need to address??? LOL Glad you got your shopping done. I love build a bear, but it is expensive. My youngest has a bunch from a couple of years ago when they first opened.
sounds like you had fun shopping for fathers day. I am on a trip with my cub scouts on fathers day so will miss it.
I hope the day is lovely for your dad and you. You say he is poorly, what is the matter with him?? Hope you don't think me rude for asking.
The build a bear is just like the bear factory we have in the UK. I have a rabbit called Ffion, who is dressed on PJs, a dressing gown and slippers, she is so cute. I could spend loads in that shop but Mick wouldn't be happy if I did. I think the frog sounds cute too......Jules xx
I wish we had a build a bear in our mall. I would love to take bri to one. She sees the commercial and says, "i wa na go dare" Poor thing! Anyway..you're hubster made out big time. Where are you hiding that homer? That is the cutest thing. I think he will love that so much! Funny about weeone in the dollar store. 11 years old is when the pick up on that trick! You're so funny
I just realized yesterday that Father's Day is THIS weekend, lol. I ran out while Ben was with the kids and got a few things and we are going to finish Saturday. I know bad me! You did good though :)
I'm glad that you spent some time with your dad, thats special time.
We have one of those build a bear stores at the mall here, I walk by it but haven't been brave enough to actually go in,lol!
Hi Sherry! I am hysterical about you telling Wee One the frog would have to leave the store naked!! I was going to take my five year old there but it sounds a little pricey. I do the same thing with my little one in the dollar store. I usually take him before the mall so when he starts aking for things I say...didn't I just buy you something?! LOL! Take Care and Enjoy Father's Day, Kim http://journals.aol.com/dkdhenn/welcometokimsworld
Sounds like dad is going to have a great fathers day.
My son thinks we have a money tree in our back yard LOL!
Thanks for sharing your life with us we like it a lot!
SMILE:)!

Smart girl!!! How can you NOT give her the money when she says something like that and I am sure it was in front of other people too!! I have never been into one of those Build-A-Bear's and for good reason, I don't have money to buy each of my kids one AND clothes! Can you imagine the tantrum Emma would have if she couldn't get clothes to put on her teddy just so she could take them off at home and never find them again?! Ugghh! I am glad you got to spend the day with your Daddy. How sweet that you actually get him to laugh. Daddy's little girl, makes my heart fill! It sounds like you are having a wonderful summer already and I can only hope our summer is as good.
Hugs and love, Lisa
Whoa, your husband is getting a lot for fathers day. I got Aaron one thing he's wanted and I'll make him breakfast, that's it.
My girls LOVE Build-a-Bear. Luckily there isn't one in our regular mall, only the mall in Tampa that we go to once or twice a year. When we went, Alana made a leopard and bought the biker jacket and leather skirt for it and Mikey made a horse and got a cowboy hat for it. They're cute, but I think I spent close to $80 in there! ~Melissa
We've got something similar in a town near us!!! Bear Factory. Exactly the same proceedure. Did you have a birth certificate & specially carry box?? My kids thought it was marvellous when they were smaller. But you are so right about the clothes.......you could spend a ridiculous amount of money quite easily.
What a great money spinning idea though. Occasionally I come across something & just think "I wish I'd thought of this...it's a license to print money"!
Sounds like you have everything for a great fathers day. I'm sure he'll enjoy it! We love Build a Bear and dd has several and a few more she still wants (even at 15). Children and so sweet with their little comments when they need a bit more $, aren't they? ;)
We've been to something similar to Build A Bear before! It was during a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Not sure if it's the exact same franchise but the idea is similar. My daughter even got a "birth certificate" for it and on the very first birthday, they sent her "daughter dog" (she had chosen to make a Dalmation puppy complete with firefighter's uniform) a birthday card! How cool was that!
Hey Sherry! Sounds like your DH will make out well for Father's Day. I want I big Homer too but mine has to say "Mmmmm Beer" LOL!
The situation with your Dad sounds so similar to what I went through with my Dad. You guys are very lucky to be so close and able to talk so openly. Big Father's Day hugs to Dad :-)
