Today, I thought I would post pictures of what we are doing, and various other things around the house. How interesting, huh? Once again wee one is swimming with her friend, Betsy is talking on the phone and I'm sewing. Do you see a pattern forming here? I do....and it's a pretty boring one at that. *Sigh.
Yesterday I started working with wee one on reading comprehension. I found some great websites with online games dealing with grammar and math. I am going to have to work with her all summer to catch up on what she missed during the year. It's really pretty rotten that I have to do the teacher's job. I pray that she gets a good 4th grade teacher this year. You can bet your bum I'm going to be on the lookout for any suggestion that she isn't getting top notch learning. I had wee one write down for me, how she felt about last year because she was having trouble expressing herself about it. This is what she wrote:
"Things that I don't like about school in 3rd grade: Well, I
feel like I'm not learning anything because this year I had
two teachers. One had to quit being a science teacher and
become a teacher, and the other was very nice. The first
teacher was the science wone, well, she didn't really know
what to do all year and I thought that was band and also
I didn't learn anything that I had to do. Well, my other
teacher was nice but when she explaind it, it seemed hard
and whenever I had a problem wrong I would kind of cry in
my arms. I really didn't like thisyear at all. It was always
party after party every day. I hated those classes and I wish
I'm going to be in a better class next year, I really do!"
Now, I ask you, what kid should have to go through this in third grade? I mean, if a nine year old knows she isn't learning, shouldn't the teacher? It just makes me so angry. I should send this letter to the principal and "suggest" my daughter get the best teacher in the 4th grade! Hmmmm, I think maybe I will do just that.
Anyway, I should get back to work. The soup has been eaten, and they are now on to cake....Pillsbury Funfetti Cake....it's the family's favorite! I made it last night for dinner and there are 3 pieces left....

I love these pictures! If you can sew those covers, you can sew anything! I especially love how shiney the shelves of your bookcase are--I can see the reflection of Dean Koontz's name on them! :o) Love, Kim
You made such a nice homey house down there in florida....I really like it..you got the knack. Loved the pictures. Have fun the rest of the day . it doesn't look boring at all.
Yikes about the school...This is what I have done in the past. I spend lots of time at the schools (volunteering, etc room mom and all that -- yes I was once room mom to all 3 children at the same time!). Get to know who is the best teacher. If there are teachers in your school who have children that attend the school, find out what classes they put their kids in and then fight tooth and nail to get them in those classes. If you make yourself seen around the school you should be able to get your way (squeaky wheel gets oiled and all that). Write a letter at the end of the school year (or now), telling your daughters experience, stating which teacher you would like her to have, and WHY she would benefit from having that teacher. Make phone calls if letter doesn't work, but the letter should work. I know, I have done this MANY times!!!!

Your home is so inviting and charming. I really hate that your wee one feels the way she does about school. But the one bright spot is she has you for a mommy. I have a feeling you will be the greatest blessing and teacher in that child's life. I have no doubt you will sort the teachers if this continues. Have a fun summer!
What a beautiful and CLEAN home! What are those things you are sewing? Do you make them for someone or do you sell them yourself?
I'm so sorry about Wee One's school year, sounds kind of like my daughters. She had one teacher half the year because her real teacher was out on bedrest, then the bedrest teacher came back after Christmas and the change in teaching style was unbelievable. It seemed like the kids were told what to do but not taught. Really burns me! I know 3 of the 5th grade teachers and they are all good, not sure about the 4th one though, so we have a pretty good chance of getting a good teacher next year.
Awww,I can only see the 1st picture,I think somethings wrong with my computer.Anyways, what a great idea about the letter you had wee one write. It's frickin pathetic when a 9 year old says it's like 1 party after another. You definitely need to send that to the principal and the superintendant of your district. It is so hard on these kids when a teacher leaves in the midle of the school year.We kept having teachers go on maternity leave and I think that was one of the many reasons Tyler has had such a bad school year.I think I'm gonna have my kids write a letter or list of things like you did.KIM

Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics!! I love your fireplace!!! haha
Anyways, you definately need to mail that to the principal...why should she even be going if they are doing what they are getting paid to do..TEACH...thats so sad...I don't know how I would handle that situation being my wee ones are not in the "big" school yet...
Jackie
Thanks for the kind words.
I would most certainly send in that letter to the principal. No child should have to go through that in a school. I am proud of you that you can take part in her education, though. Good Luck!

I totally know what you are going thru with your wee one and the school. I would speak up tho in your situation...no child should feel like they aren't learning anything. Beautiful house you have there!! :o) Julie
I'm sorry that she had a bad 3rd grade year and I would let the school know. I hope her 4th grade year is alot better.
Beautiful house you have.
Third grade is a hard year. There is so much that is introduced. My son is a third grader also. Having academic activities available during the summer should help her quite a bit. Thank goodness for the computer...it can make learning so engaging.
We made Funfetti yesterday too!!! That's the cake my daughter wanted for her birthday.
