And so another summer vacation comes to a close, and we are ringing in the new school year....
Today was the girl's first day of school. They both had good days....meeting their new teachers, finding their classrooms, etc., etc. I have to say I was rather lonely this morning....but it only lasted a while....lol.
Betsy's bus schedule says that they are to be at the bus stop ten minutes before the scheduled pick up time so that if traffic is light, the kids won't miss the bus. No problem there this morning, as I sat there with her for 40 freaking minutes until I had to leave to get wee one ready for school! Betsy text messaged me ten minutes later to tell me that she had finally gotten on the bus. I tell you....this city has some MAJOR bussing problems. Some of the busses didn't even show up....so I suppose we should be glad for our *small delay. I could have taken her to school and been home in 15 minutes, had I known it was going to be that late. Sheesh.
As for wee one, we don't have to worry about the bus for her, since I have to take her and pick her up every day, due to the safety patrol. This morning there were cops all over the place....at bus stops helping the kids get on the bus, pulling over fast driving teenagers, and driving the parents nuts trying to direct traffic at the elementary school! I'm telling you, if they had just let us do it the way we normally do, there wouldn't have been that two mile back up! LOL....I had to go into the school this morning and hand deliver the "unopened box of your child's medication" (motrin for her migraines) so that she would have it if she needed it. (By the time I got home I needed it!) When I left her she was getting her official (not trainee) safety sash and being assigned a locker to keep her book bag in while on patrol. It was just too cute. The kids were so excited!
By the time I got home at 8:00, I had been in the car since 6:00 am! I can see right now that I'm going to have to get used to early morning humidity. My gas needle went down 1/4 of a tank today just waiting for the kids....I guess I'll be turning the car off while waiting. I can handle it in the morning....but in the afternoon? No way. The humidity was only 800% today....
Wee one was so nervous about school that her gerd was acting up over the weekend. So badly, in fact, that she was not able to stand for more than a few minutes before the sharp pains started. She has been on her Zantac now for two days and is feeling much better. She was so happy when she got home from school today. She said that her teacher was "wonderful" and that he talked "a lot" today. They played a few games, did some work, etc., etc. She came right in and did her homework....here's hoping that lasts longer than a week! LOL.
Betsy said that her day went well. She gave me her list of supplies wich consisted of two binders, pens and washable markers (we already had the paper). I thought I was going to get away with spending ten bucks on her....until she said that they need some sort of fancy schmancy (I believe that is the technical name for it) calculator for physics....which runs $89 at Wal Mart. (*insert muted trombone music here....wa, wa, wa, wa, waaaaaaaaaa!) I do believe I will be doing a search on eBay this evening!
All in all it was a good day for everyone. I still can't get used to the school year starting this early though....I guess I will never shake my northern habits!

We are in ky and our school started today. Im glad it meant the kids in the hood were gone and I had the hood and the store to myself YIPPEEEEEEEEE WOW its good to be crazy. Now I wish though I was still schooling. When you homeschool its a big part of your day. I mean its my whole day> I so miss it. yes every time cops direct traffic we get back ups. Its a pain in the you know what.!!!!!! One thing about homeschooling I find that I dont recommend $89 calcu.ators for my kids LOL OH My gosh I sneeded agian. freaking himidity is driving me nuts. UGH!!!!!!!!! Well try to find one online. If she does not need it in scohol there are some neat online free calculators.
I am glad the girls are happy to be back to school. You are a good mom to be in the car for two hours this am! It is stinking hot here and not cooling off any! Not time for school to start in my opinion - but no one asked me did they?

I think I couldn't get out of Wal-Mart without spending at least fiftly bucks on office supplies... especially the cool ones that I don't need... since I am an absolute office-supply-junkie!

I am going to play a trick on 'em. I'm going to tell them their 1st day has been changed to today. I know, I am evil.... LOL

Ah yes, the infamous TI-83 calculator, or whatever it is....my daughter had to have one for high school too a few years ago. I will tell you that even now, as a junior, she hasn't needed another one or a different one, thank goodness.
Your description of Day One sounded just like what we went through here last Wednesday when my girls started. My older daughter's bus now comes at 5:45 a.m. instead of 6:15 as it had the last two years....UGH (we are both zombies). I waited in the a.m. and the p.m. with the ac on - too freaking hot here in FL to go without it! Then dropping the younger one at middle school hours later was awful with all the cops and the traffic backed up for miles. By Friday, though, traffic was moving smoothly again, without all the cops and teachers out there anymore. :)
Anyway, just wanted to let you know you're not alone!

We don't start school till the 29th of this month. But I can tell already that most schools have started already by the lack of traffic and crowds. We have had rain the last 2 days and my kids are crawling the walls! I think they are ready to go back and get into a routine! I know I am! Tammy
I would be dazed by such an early starting date.
At the summer camp in NC my kids attended/worked at, the first session starts right after Memorial Day and the final one ended this past week-end -- those southern school calendars. My kids were never able to participate until the end of June. My dd will be in college in Louisiana this year, so she may actually be able to work there the whole summer (if you count early August as the end of the whole summer).
Tell Betsy to watch that calulator. Every one of my three kids had one stolen.
I hear ya on the bus thing AND the long lines of chaos at the school! Thankfully, last year's bully has moved out of the neighborhood and my three are loving the bus this year! Amazing! So, this week we are trying straight bus thing. We'll see how it goes. First sign of trouble and they are back to being car riders as much as humanly possible for me. Wow, I remember when the calculator I needed for Trig was only $13.00 and my mom had a heart attack about that. It was a Texas Instruments one- I do remember that for some reason which is odd because I don't remember a thing about Trigonometry except the teacher took my hairbrush one day when I accidentally forgot the no brushing hair rule. I always obeyed her rule but boy she got me that day! I think she did give it back on the last day of school. She was like an army sergeant and had a drawer just full of lipstick and make up and girl's hair brushes! To this day, I try to figure out what I might have a use for around here when it comes to Trig but alas, I seriously don't remember a blasted thing about it. Glad the girls had a wonderful day at school! Summer is too short in FL! Hugs,
Lisa
