My mom brought over an old photo album that she didn't know my father had. It was full of pictures from his childhood. We think his mother may have made it for him before she died. Although the pictures were taken in the 30's and 40's, the film was developed in the late 50's.
I could just get lost in these pictures from the past. They are of my father, but at a time that I know nothing about. One thing that is apparent however, is that he had a very happy childhood. He is smiling in every picture! His family was one out of the story books. His parents met and married young....true love from the moment their eyes met. My father was their only child and they loved him fiercely. Dad's childhood was filled with fun and family, church on Sunday and dinner afterward with family.
All of the men were barbers. Picture #4 is of my dad and his father, standing in front of one of the ladies shops. This was, technically, the location of his first job. The ladies would give him a magnet, and he would ride around on his trycicle picking up the hairpins that would fall. I smile every time I think of him doing that!
Included in the book of pictures were birthday cards that dad's family had sent him as a kid. One came from his uncle who was away during WWII. He talked about learning to use his guns, and how the power would "knock you on your fanny!" He also said, "I sure hope the next time I see you this war is over." These are such treasures....I'm so glad my mom found them.
I guess I'm in a melancholy mood lately. Must be the rainy weather.

Thank you for sharing these precious family treasured photos. Brings back so many memories of my own family and heritage. My favorite is the one of your dad on the blanket in the yard. It reminds me of a photo of my mother in her bonnet and Sunday dress, also taken outside in the yard. She was about 1 year old... and she is walking towards the camera, probably taking some of her first steps.
Hugs,
Lisa

Sherry~ My grandmother was our family historian and when she died I got a lot of the old family pictures. I took them to one of those picture machines and had them all copied into 5x7's and some 8x10's and they are all framed in my family room. My kids now know who their ancesters are by name. . .how precious is that.
