Brrrrr......
I can't believe how cold it is! It's 38 outside right now at 7 am. My oldest dd was leaving for the bus stop at 6:30, dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt. She mentioned how cold it was, then started putting on her shoes. I asked her where her coat was, and she said she didn't need one. Excuse Me? It's freezing outside, and you are going to walk to the bus stop in a sweatshirt? Well, as you can imagine, that lead to an argument. We went to her room, she tried on the coat and said it looked "gay". Then she stood there telling me that she didn't want to wear it, why does she have to wear it, come ON Mom....so finally I said, whatever....freeze your butt (although I might have said a$$) off, get a cold, I don't care. Of course by that time, it was late and I had to drive her to the bus stop. (It's about a 5 min. walk). My youngest dd was practically sleep walking to the car, wrapped in a blanket. So, as we got to the bus stop, two of her friends were there.....with jeans and sweatshirts on. I should have known. So, I told her she didn't have to wear the coat. Am I weak? I don't think so, because she spent another 2 minutes asking me if it was really okay to take it off....do I hate her for not wanting to wear it....am I sure she didn't have to keep it on. I know she knew what she should have done....only now she can't blame me when she starts sneezing!

same thing happened with My Son and I this morning, he wore his dumb hoody sweatshirt to try and look like a rapper or something. Gawd!. My 15 year old girl will wear her coat...its cool now, even hats gloves scarves are instyle, pompoms on the hats are back. Braided ties on the hats hanging down. The middle school kids, yep I dropped off my son all sweatshirts on the little dopes. And everything is "gay" heretoo. "MA YOU ARE SOOO GAYYYY" LOL Great Entry~
All I can say is--this sounds very familiar. I don't think kids wear coats anymore. In Georgia, they all seem to wear those hooded sweatshirts (hoodies) and that's it. And when the kids are teens, like your daughter, one of the most important things in the world to them is being just like everyone else. I don't even argue anymore.
Oh man, I have been there and done that. The things kids will do for fashion. I will never forget my then 16 year old in NY city wearing a skirt when it was like 10 degrees because she wanted to look nice, and pants would look gay to wear to a show. Okay...I was looking really gay and warm as I wore mine..lol..Gay in a happy way as I wasn't dealing with chattering teeth. I guess at that age we just have to let them find out for themselves..as hard as it is. Good luck!!!
Like 10 degrees here, actually cold enough to make my 11 YO not care if she looked uncool in pants. And I say the same thing to her, Go ahead freeze your butt off.
If it helps any I will say what I always say to my kids when their grandmother tells them they will catch a cold if they go out with their hair wet or whatever . . . You cannot catch a cold from just the cold alone, there has to be germs, that's the only way you will catch a cold. Okay? Does that make it any better? Hope so!

OMG my son is like that too! I'm glad I'm not the only mom who doesn't hear the "gay" thing all the time. It's either that or retarded, the newest buzz words for the kids I guess.
