Going, going....come on, get the heck out!

My cold seems to be leaving me in stages. First it was sore throat, stuffy nose, and headache. Yesterday I was at stuffy nose, headache....and today I'm sitting here with what feels like my brain in a vice-like grip. I wish this cold would just go away already....

I tried going back to sleep this morning after taking wee one to school. I managed to get in an hour before London couldn't hold it anymore and started pawing at my face. Then she moved on to licking my forehead and barking her shrill puppy-bark only two inches from my head....hmmmm, I wonder if that contributed to my aching cranium this morning? So, I scooped her up....which, by the way, is getting increasingly difficult to do as she seems to be growing at the speed of light....and took her outside. Of course she decided that her previously overflowing bladder could wait while she ran in circles, tried to eat some mulch, and generally wasted my time. It had also begun to rain which meant I would be treated to the oh-so-lovely aroma of "wet dog" when I came inside.

I'm going to have to start taking her out on a leash if she doesn't stop goofing off out there. This morning I woke up at 3 and she was sitting up looking at me. This is not usually the case with her, as she has a built in alarm system that typically goes off at 4:30 am, at which time I take her out. So, being that she was awake, and the fact that I didn't feel like steam cleaning at 3 am, I took her outside to go potty. Fast forward 2freaking4 minutes later (that was 24 minutes), I'm still standing there, begging her to go potty. However, she was quite content to follow the scent trail of every cat that had walked across the backyard in the last, oh, I'd say week. I finally had enough and took her inside. She never did go potty, and never had an accident. And when I took her out at 4:30? You guessed it....bam....as soon as we got out there she did her business and was done. See what happens when I mess with the schedule?

Now, after saying all that, this next paragraph is going to sound really stupid but....I'm thinking she needs a playmate. I know, why torture myself when I know that I am only going to double my own work? It's just....I feel guilty during the day when she has no one to play with. Is that normal? She is so good, and if I've been cleaning too long she will bring me the ball to remind me that it's time for her to do something other than chew her bone or lay around. You know, Percy was so old he would just sleep all day, and I forgot what it was like to have a puppy. Betsy was 5 when we got him, so he had an all day, built in playmate. I've mentioned my idea to the family and they are all for it. My problem is deciding what kind of dog to get. Should I stick with a Golden (everyone here is for that idea), or maybe get a smaller dog. There really are no other dogs I prefer....although I do have three other breeds in mind: Schnauzer, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, or Coton De Tulear. Let's put it to a vote....leave your choice in my comment section. (Of course, if we go with the Golden, I am going through our local Golden Retriever rescue group.)

Anyhoo....I suppose I should get off my arse and do something around here. I have to finish some laundry and since everything else seems to be in order, I should start sewing. It's great outside right now. Drizzly and cool....just the way I like it. Oh, I forgot that I have to run to the store to get some bread. It is very rare that we run out of bread around here, as wee one is the only one who eats it on a regular basis....in her lunch. Usually I end up tossing half a loaf. However, this last batch I got was unusuallystale. I'll have to make sure to check the dates on the next package....

Okay, I'm outta here for today....don't forget to vote....it's your duty as an American citizen! That and I just can't make up my mind!!!!

I vote for Rat Terrier (I have a spare...)  Just jokin'!   My friend got two goldens together, and she said it was just too much to have two big dogs running through the house, so maybe pairing London with a smaller dog would be a good choice.  Good luck!  JAE

I'm voting for another Golden.  I'm really glad that my two are of equal size (different breeds, obviously).  When they play, sometimes they play rough and I don't have to worry about one hurting the other....

You know what I've been noticing lately?  When I buy Sara Lee bread, it stays fresh longer....coincidence?

Hi Sherry. I have posted my recipe for toad in the hole on my journal for you. If you would like any others I will gladly give them to you !! I'll be after you next for some American recipes - I would love to do something different !!
As for getting another dog I think it's a great idea. I was dubious before I got Pepper but Pins absolutely loves having a playmate (I know they're cats but animals do get lonely I think). I'd go for another Golden if it were me but once you start looking at them all you'll know which one to get !!
Take care, love Debbie xx

OH well you know us with five dogs we are voting get another yeah its different when no kids at home. so yeah get another Pepper needed a pupppy and that is how we got Sasha and Honey and NOW King Arthur. . Rachael says get a golden. I say get a golden becuase I have  friends with snouzers and they do have some medicial issues and the corgies have back issues dont wnat ot go thru that again do ya. the other breed is cute as a bugs ear. but really with a big dog you need one that gets closer to its size. really its not that bad having big dogs LOOK I have four that are over 45 lbs well King aruthru will be and bonez is smaller and it is an issue when they play. he can often get knocked around and I have to worry about him alot. so yeah get dogs closer in size but one thing I can tell you is ifyou have two dogs.......... well its better to not have hte same sex. one of the first things our vet told us is with Pepper get a girl for him to play w ith. two boys tend to compete and two girls do. just life you know. so really two votes for a golden and I ll ask the rest of the family when we have dinner.

the coton is the cutest..

the coton de tulear is the cutest and my favorite...but not sure it would get along well with London because of the sizes....so the pembroke welsh corgi seems more suitable size-wise.

I say get another Golden.  You know that they will get along. And being the same size, will make better playmates.

Think long and hard about this . . .
That being said, my vote is for a schnauzer, of course.
Hope you feel better very soon.

I vote for another Golden.  My second choice is a Corgi.  They are sometimes too smart for their own good though!

I'm partial to the Schnauzers.  They are so loving..and smart.  Easy to train.  We've never had problems with having two female dogs. They get along great once they decide who the dominant one is.
Once, we got a playmate for our female German Shepherd.  It was a female Border Collie.  When we first got her she was about 5lbs!!  That Shepherd loved the new puppy and they grew to be the best of friends.
Good luck with your decision.  I think it's a good idea!!

How about one of those new Labradoodles? Have you seen them? Or how about going to the local shelter, they are all online now with photos. Only problem is you'll want to bring them all home! Martha :-)

I am glad you are feeling better!!

I vote for another Golden.  You have had good luck with them and the dogs will be a similar size so when they wrestle you don't have to worry about doggy injuries.

What a cute dragon blowing the heart!!  I am going through the same "I wanna play" thing with our kitty over here.  She is driving me nuts.  I know she is going to be so lonely when I start the new job.  (Yay, I'm leaving the cleaning company behind!!)  I have had a schnauser and a golden and I have to say both were wonderful.  Only thing about the golden was hair just everywhere and drooling and shaking the drool onto the walls.  And he was so big.  He just was like having a horse walk around the house.  The schnauser had an annoying yappy bark though but was adorable... I loved them both so much!!  The golden was a wonderful watch dog and was my body guard the whole time I was pregnant each time.  My schnauser was very loving also.  We were so lucky we had one with just a beautiful temperament.  Hugs,
Lisa

Personally, I would get another Golden.  But...if you are just looking for a small little dog, the Coton De Tulear is really cute!!  Or....what about a dog from the humane society??  :(  They always need a good loving home.

*hugs*

Hiya ,, if I had a vote it would be hard to choose ,, the corgie is very active,,, gotta always be doin something ,, but is easy as far as grooming goes... my other choice would be the fluffy sweet doggie there ,,very expensive lol and grooming would be done alot more then the other dog ,, even though it doesnt require alot of bathing ,, would have to get alot of hair cuts lol.. ,,,guess i wasnt much help ,, I guess if it was me I'd go for the corgie.  Have a good one!

Hi,

I would say get another Golden, I have always wanted a golden, but ended up with a yellow lab but that ok he is so lovable couldn't live without him now, but I would say another golden, like I someone else said you would want them to be pretty close to the same size as so when they play it you wouldnt have so much worry of London hurting it if it were smaller.

get another golden. You already know their temperment. Also a little dog is cute but can get accidentally hurt by a bigger dog while playing. My friends little dog had her back broken by her bigger playmate.

another golden is my vote but you will certainly have your hands full, in a nice way though........good luck :)...............Jules xx

Hope you're feeling better by now.  If it were me I would either get another Golden or go with the Coton because of the description of their temperament.
