Busy day....

Today is the big day....kidney testing! Betsy went into work with her dad this morning, as the testing facility is just down the road from John's office. He is going to take her....::gasp::..I'm a little nervous, as he has never done anything like this on his own before. Don't get me wrong, he is a great dad, but this is usually something that I, or both of us take care of. I'm sure he will do just fine....Betsy has been having intermittent pain, so it will be very interesting to see what they find. I just pray the testing goes quickly and easily! (He just called me and they only left 15 minutes ago....there are three different offices listed on the paper and he wasn't sure which one to go to....I TOLD him last night which one....dear Lord....)

Sick Dog In BedWhile they are at the testing place, I will be at the vet with Percy. He is having a problem and I'm not sure what is going on. Let's just say it involves his bladder, my carpet, and lots of paper towels. Thank God for home steam cleaning machines. He is being confined to the porch until the matter is settled....

2 Guys Moving A CouchWe are getting our couch and table today....yippee! I'm so excited. I moved the dining room around yesterday, and also steam cleaned the family room for a nice, clean palette to work with. The Salvation Army is coming on Thursday to pick up the dining room table and loveseat....I should throw in the two bags of toys I have had in the back of my car for months that I've been meaning to take to Goodwill. John reminds me every time he opens the back of the van. I keep forgetting....

Woman BackpainMy back hurts so bad that it is radiating down my legs....I must have injured a disk or something. I have taken some pain medication and I hope it kicks in before I have to drag the dog to the vet. He does not do good on tile floors, which means a lot of picking him up. Wouldn't that be a scene if both of us fell on the floor....we would both just lay there and whine, waiting for someone to pick us up....although hopefully I would retain my bladder control....

I have tons of sewing to do today between movers, doctors and vet appointments. Not to mention having to help wee one study for the big "polygon quiz" tomorrow. We spent last evening going over things. I think she will do fine if she can get over her nerves. I have never seen someone so tightly wound over tests. She is one of those kids that absolutely freeze when the test is put in front of them. I could ask her questions all night long and she will answer them, but the next day the same questions can be on a test and she will forget everything. If anyone has ANY suggestions on how I can help her to get over this.....please let me know. I hate to see her nervous all the time. She has been put on Zantac because her nerves have caused her to have acid reflux. I was amazed when the doc said that lots of kids her age are on it. The funny thing is that she is such a mellow, happy child. She is so laid back most of the time....it makes me feel terrible to know she suffers like this.

Okay, time to get another half hour of sleep before the day begins....later gators....

My son is the same way with tests. I feel for her because I am too. Sorry your back hurts and guess what..me too.  it  hurt so bad I went to bed at 10pm and woke up every hour in severe pain. I took midol and mineral ice rub and itdidn't help at all.  Finally at 4am I gave up and got up and cleaned the fridge. I thought you had the table already that's why I was asking for pictures. You really have your hands full over there. Why does everything happen all in one day and then there are days when nothing happens? Betsy...they better find out what the problem is and fix it. No child should have to suffer like that. Johns a good daddy he will do fine.

Matthew is the same way when it comes to any major events such as tests, weddings, etc.  He actually just cancelled out of being in his best friends' mom's wedding because he didn't want "everyone looking at him".  Haven't put him on drugs yet, but he is still young.  LOL!  Bethany was also the same way with tests, I found that I couldn't coddle her, I just had to be firm and say "Well, you will do the best you can and get it over and done with" and not bring it up too much and she seemed to do okay with that.  Basically it's all on how your child reacts and how you parent, which, by the way, you are doing an INCREDIBLE job of doing with both girls!!  I remember when I would have Todd take the kids to the docs for me when I worked full-time.  He HATED it because I would have 100 questions when he got home that he would always "forget" to ask the doctor.  LOL!  Hopefully Betsy is old enough that she can ask the questions for you!  Hope everything works out okay.  I will be thinking of both girls today.
Love,
Lisa
P.S.:  And, you too!  Hope your back feels better!!

Let us know if you have to email about Betsy and the tests. YUP men I would feel much better doing it myself too. Poor Percy. UT infections cause that in dogs and other things like age. After the surgeries for the brindle girls (sasha and honey) to fix them they both did that for a year. Sasha is about over it Honey not quite. almost though. Shes walking and out it comes splat. Rachael was the same way. I used chamomeal teas  and other herbs to calm her down. It worked some but she use to run down the hall way slide on her knees and pray like no bodies business when I graded tests and then if she hears me mark one wrong........ she takes her palm smackes her head and would say I knew that one I knew that one why did I write that. ?????????? But the teas stopped all that and once she got adjusted to it she did not have to take them. They did not make her sleepy just relaxed. valarien was another one. No chemicals just herbs. I give valarian to Honey so she wont puke anymore on the camping trips. She sits backwards watching the camper the whole way. She watches the camper and now and again looks at us as if to say HEY that big house is following us. HEY HEY that big house is following us. Then stares at it again LOL what kind of sewing do you do???

Good luck -- I was going to say to Betsy, but then I realized that you all -- including the dog -- need it today!

I used to volunteer at the school often. I realized that some of the most intelligent kids were like Wee One. They would freeze on tests. Finally one teacher (fresh out of college) suggested to give oral tests to the two kids having problems. That worked! They just learned differently from the others. They were probably the smartest kids in class, but always had problems with tests. So from then on, they would have oral tests for everyone (so those kids wouldn't be singled out). That was for a 4th grade class. I don't know about Wee One, but maybe this would work.

Gosh, sounds like you have a busy day ahead of you... Good luck with that.

I am finally up to date with your journal after starting at the very beginning, although I'm a bit sad - I loved spending hours reading weeks worth of them at once! Lots of love and luck to you all today, hope all goes well.

Okay, this may sound silly but that is the whole point. Every child is diffierent but it has helped at least two kids I know that has had some of the same problems. You and her, after going over the stuff, relax and make up a small song. Make it about the test itself. Use some answers she will have to know and even about her concern and freezing once the test is in front of her. Make it short and silly. Sing it, rap it, whatever until she knows it as well as she knows the answers. Then when that scary piece of paper is in front of her, tell her to take a deep breath and sing it to herself before she begins. It has worked for two kids I know of. Just remind her not to try and giggle out loud, LOL. Plus you can do a google search about the matter that could help if that doesn't.

My 13 year old son is just like wee one....he is also on Zantac for acid reflux...and he has irritable bowel syndrome which the doctor said is all stress-related...I feel bad for him....but nothing seems to be working to get him to de-stress.

I hope all goes well today with Betsy.  I'm sure that dh will do fine :-) if not you can always call up there and speak to the dr. yourself if needed. However, I'm sure that between Bestsy and your husband, they will be just fine.  No body gets it done like mom. :-)

I hope that Wee One does well on the quiz.  I used to get upset before a test but usually relaxed after scanning the test and realizing that I knew this stuff.  I hope that every thing works out. :-)

Poor percy - Keep us posted.

Woo hoo new furniture!
Hugs,
Holly

So how did things go at the vet?  Did you both contain your bladders? LOL  I hope everything works out with Betsy at her appointment and also hoping your back is feeling better.
Oh new furniture, how nice! :)~Melissa

I'm sure most of the day is behind you by now...hope all went well at the doctors for Betsy, at the vets for Percy (and you).
New furniture, ow, I love it.  Unfortunately I only have a few rooms that I can buy new furniture for, because we have quite a few family antiques that we can't part with.  Take pics for us, you know how we just love pics.
I hope that your back gets better, and the leg pain goes away.  I'm well acquainted with all that.  I had sciatic nerve pain for 8 months, caused by a herniated-disc in my lower back.  I swear the pain was worse than labor pains.  I tried physical therapy, epidural steroid injections, and took anti-inflammatories the whole time.  Nothing helped.  Finally I had the disc repaired, and woke up from the op with NO pain.
Test anxiety is quite a common problem. Tell Wee One to say positive things to herself as the test paper is being handed out, like..."I studied, I know the answers, and I'm ready to do my best."
Sorry that was so long.  Hope you have a good night.

Wow you did have a busy day! Hope everything went ok with Betsy....I had the same problem as Wee one (well i still do now that I am back to school!). In high school they had to put me on meds cause I almost got an ulcer from stressin about that kind of stuff. In elementary school my mom had to make me a "fake test" and leave the room. She would time me as if I was in a real class. That helped a little bit! But I hope she does well on her test! Also, hope everything went good at the vet!
