*Back* to normal????

I got that callback from the vet yesterday and they asked that I bring him in. There was despair in the nurses voice, and I knew what she was thinking....this dog is a goner. So, I loaded him up and took him over. The look on the vet's face when she came in the room was awful. She didn't even say anything....just looked at me like, I"m so sorry....then she started testing him. The more she tested him, the better her mood got. I know she thought he was going to have to be put down....and so did the assistants, as there was a lot of whispering around me.

Diagnosis? Percy blew a disk in his back, and the compressed nerves are causing mild paralisis in his left leg, weakness in his right. He's on steroids right now, and needs "bed rest" for a few weeks. Fine by me....I'll do whatever it takes. Only....the second I leave the room, he starts barking! LOL. And last night he was doing the strangest thing. Percy is a great dog, but never licks someone. NEVER. So, I'm sitting on the floor with him, feeling bad that I was annoyed at having to pick him up all weekend, and he kept pawing at my shoulder. I came down to him and said, "What do you WANT boy?" and he licked me! He did it over and over. I would sit up, he would paw my shoulder, then he would lick my cheek. Awwww....how cute. And slimy. But hey, I'll take the appreciation!

My hands are raw from taking him out to the bathroom. We have a harness that straps over his front legs, and the handles are on his back. I have to lift his haunches, then grab the handles and kind of lift/drag him outside. It's great with two people, but with just me, it's not easy. I broke a strap trying to pull him yesterday, and my shoulders and back feel like I have been working in the coal mines! I took him out this morning, after a night of sleeping, and he could not move his legs at all. Here's hoping he will warm up and be easier to move on his next bathroom break. Oh, did I mention that the steroids will make him urinate more frequently?

In other news....

I am going to school to have lunch with wee one today. Last night she finally broke down and sobbed over her school work. I felt horrible! She cried so much that I had to get a cool rag and wipe her eyes and forehead. This morning she has a headache from all the crying. But....we studied together for a long time and I think she is ready for her two tests today. Math and science. She has the math down pat....it's the science I'm worried about. I would say she knows 85% of it....so please, if you have a little time this morning, send up a prayer that she remains calm and is able to answer the questions!

I'm off to get her ready for school, and to bandage my hands....lol. Have a good one....

My boys have been wanting a dog forever! My husband and I have talked it over and we think they are ready for one. I have been researching breeds online, and we are leaning towards a Golden. My cousin has one, and he is such a great dog.

I hope WeeOne's tests go well today. Everyone always said 5th grade was the hardest. I believe it. My son had homework everynight last year. This year, it is more hands on work and group work. tell her it DOES get easier after 5th grade. I feel bad for her that she stresses so bad over tests.

Hope the day goes well...

Poor Percy!  He looks so sad for putting you through all this.  He is so lucky though to have owners that will help him, and not to mention that $ you spent at the vet's.  Goldens are so special to me (I have 2).  I'm sure he'll be his back on his feet soon.  Bless you for loving him so much.

He has had a bad back all long. But dont you think that is the BEST reward getting kisses from him. HOW special. HE Knows you love him. Its pretty scary when this happens for everyone. Poor wee one. give her a hug for me and try to get her some valarian its an herb and it calms and chamomeal tea is good too and they can be taken together. The pressure the schools put these kids under is just ridiculous!  Makes me so angry and makes me want to home school ALL of my kids.  Uggghhh!  I am happy to read that Percy is treatable.  PHEW!  I was thinking the worst too I am sorry to say.  What a good Momma you are and you did deserve all those extra special licks yesterday.  :)
Hugs and love,
Lisa
P.S.:  Hope you start to feel better soon too!

For someone so sick he looks awefully cute. I wish I looked that cute when I was sick. God bless you. He kissed you because he knows you love him. What a good boy!
I said a quick prayer for the little one. I hope I'm not too late. But I think God knows what you're gonna ask for before you even ask for it. Right?
When I was Wee Ones age there was no school pressure. They put so much on the kids nowadays. My son has the same problem with tests and I don't know why they stopped doing it. I think he refused now because he wants to be "cool" but I had a meeting with the principal and all his teachers and he was allowed, at my request to be taken out of the classroom for tests and do them in the library with the librarian, quiet, without the pressure of the classroom and he faired much better when he did that. It can hurt to ask.

What a day for you.  I'm glad the vet thinks Percy will get better but it sounds like you have your work cut out for you in the mean time.  How does Percy go potty if his back legs don't work?  I hope you dont need to bathe him after each trip outside.
{{{{Wee one}}}}  How awful for a child to be so stressed.

I am so glad I was wrong about the kidney failure!  Not that it is any easier to deal with him.  What a sweetie.  He knows how much you love him.  It's amazing to me how perceptive dogs are.
Poor Wee One.  It is no fun to hurt that much over school work.  I will pray for her.

Oh, I am so glad to see Percy is doing better, it is amazing how much they know, and he know that he needed to show you how much he loves and appreciates you.  My dog is not a licker/kisser either.  But the few times he has (usually on my hand, once on my nose) it is because I am crying or upset over something..........Tammy

poor wee-one with the school work!  What are they trying to do to these kids?  It's awful.  I'm sure she did great.
Well, guess it's sort of good news about Percy, but just think of how great your arms are going to look once he's walking again! ~Melissa

Your dog knows that you love him and are helping. He was saying thank you mommy. I pray that he gets well. Oh and this may sound strange but...my aunt has a dog who she takes outside to use the bathroom. She is old and has a bladder problem. She is a poodle so she got some old panties, stuck a feminine pad in it, cut a hole for her tail to wear at night. Works great. For large, you can get some adult diapers. Vet's idea. Just cut a hole for his tail.
