My journal is alllll shook up!!!!

And the answer is....100% of those who commented were correct. That was my dad and Elvis Presley in the picture. Dad and Elvis met in the middle of "Operation Winter Shield", a NATO readiness training exercise in December of 1958. They were in Grafenwohr, Germany, which was once the training ground for Hitler's SS troops. Elvis' main job was to chauffeur the big wigs around, however he did eat with them in the mess hall. I suppose it must have been hard for him to fit in, being a "star". Dad and Elvis were both born in 1935, and both married girls 11 years younger than themselves....of course, my dad was 30 when he married mom.  I just love the picture....it's amazing to think dad was right there with "the King", spending days and nights with him, working like any other person. Those were the days....

Today we took the girls to see "Flight of the Phoenix". Ummmm, I'm just gonna put this out there....Dennis Quaid is RIPPED! He's got quite a physique for a guy who is pushin 51.....such a cutie too. There were plenty of muscles on Tyrese as well. However, sweaty hunks aside, this movie was teriffic. Kept your interest from beginning to end with plenty of action and not too much gore. The girls loved it. As we walked out of the theater, wee one said to her dad, "That was the best plane movie I've ever seen!" So, I would have to say....four thumbs up.

After that we went to Barnes and Nobels since John had a gift card that was burning a hole in his pocket. He ended up getting a Lynard Skynard cd and the movie "Easy Rider". (All he needed to round off the afternoon was some Nascar and a six pack of Bud.....lol).

Now we are home, and I've done 2 hours of ironing, the girls are watching tv and so is dh. Oh, this morning I baked cookies for the new neighbors across the street. They moved in this weekend. I'm nervous about taking them over there....I'm just not a gregarious kind of gal....but I'm working on that, and I will do it tomorrow. I was going to take it over this evening, but there are a bunch of cars over there....I'd rather wait till it's just them. I'm so weird that way....lol. Wee one said the little boy was following her on his bike when she was riding her electric scooter. She said he was "so cute". I'd say he's probably 4. I'm not sure about his sister, but I'm guessing 1st or 2nd grade. I'll let you know tomorrow if I'm right.

Well, I must go and get ready for my Sunday evening show....Desperate Housewives is finally back! WooHoo Homer Simpson style! Have a good one....

That really is so cool about your dad. My mom tried to save the picture but it was too small. She collects anything elvis on her computer. So if you have a bigger version scanned would you mind? I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. Ironing for two hours..wow. New neighbors? I hope you find a friend in the women...if not I hope the hubby is cute. Too bad our little divorced stay at home writer fantasy didn't come true. DAMMIT!

That's so nice of you to make cookies to bring over...we do not have that kind of welcoming hospitality in our neighborhood...we call our selves lucky when our old crab apple next door neighbor doesnt threaten our dogs with a gun!

Hi, I just love your journal.  That pic of you and your dad is just the coolest. I wonder if Elvis had met priscilla yet just like everyone else who left a comment. I saw Elvis where I worked in a hotel in Memphis and my husband use to play football at Graceland with him. I love your journal it reminds me of my life at your age. I had daughters 15 yrs apart and I know exactly what you mean about the second one, you are so much wiser. Reading your journal entries made me think of my married life raising my kids and being a wonderful stay at home wife and mother. Life has changed for me so much. My daugher is in college now, my husband and grandbaby were killed in auto accident and I work full time in a casino. My I feel like I have lived so many different lives and I have. Your pics are precious. I want to Thank you for taking me to days gone by from reading your entries. God Bless you and your family. come visit

That is so cool about your dad and Elvis! When we lived at Ft. Hood, TX we went by the house that Elvis stayed in while he was stationed there. Love your graphic :)

What a wonderful memory to have!  That your Dad actually served WITH Elvis at the same time!  Neato Mosquito!  And, about that movie, I have never even heard of it.  Sounds like a good one though.  I will have to remember it when it comes out on video.
Hugs and love, Lisa
P.S.:  I always pictured you being able to talk to anyone, so it's odd for me to think you are holding back going over to visit your new neighbors!  I figured you would be there the first day with a jello mold welcoming them!  :)

TWO HOURS OF IRONING?  Are you insane?  I wouldn't iron if you stood over me with a whip!  (certain gentlemen may like that imagine, we'd better be careful! :0)

Completely and totally insane.  Two Hours of Ironing!!!  I may never recover from this shock!  This serious flaw in your disposition!   OMgoodness!  We have got to talk woman!!    Love you, you nut!   Anna

Gosh I wish I had finished my ironing and also I wish I was baking cookies for the neighbors across the street!  Instead, today, I was cleaning an apartment for the second time that the guy I hired to do it messed up on.  Grrr.  Well, tomorrow will be better.  Getting kind of chilly over this way today.
Hugs,

Hi,

My friend and I run an AOL elvis group and we would love to have you join as we also have some real stories about the King.  It is so cool that your daddy knew Elvis personally as well.
